Barcelona, Spain is an incredible city filled with wonderful architecture & delicious food. This Travel Guide shares the places to visit, and the food you need to try!
Places to Visit
La Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is unlike anything I have ever seen before. This basilica is absolutely breathtaking, and I wandered around speechless by its beauty. The high ceilings and stain glass are amazing. Both the outside and the inside of The Sagrada Familia are beautiful! The lines can get long so be sure to purchase your ticket online! Gaudí sure had a beautiful vision for this basilica.
Park Güell
Park Güell is a beautiful tiled park. You can not go to Barcelona without an appreciation for Gaudí. Similarly to La Sagrada Familia, be sure to book your tickets online, to avoid the long wait. The architecture is beautiful, and it is fun to walk around both the public park and the “monumental zone” that gives you access to better views of the city and Gaudí’s work. I loved seeing the tile work. That was my favorite part of Park Güell.
Barceloneta Beach
Barceloneta Beach is one of the highlights of Barcelona. After spending a semester away from the ocean, it was so wonderful to see the waves and put my feet in the warm sand. I enjoyed relaxing for an afternoon on the beach, but I will warn that there are a lot of people who will try and sell you trinkets, drinks, or other services. Be firm and they should leave you alone. It is also fun to walk along the boardwalk and take in the view!
Casa Mila
Casa Mila is a beautiful piece of architecture. I opted to not tour the inside but loved looking at the outside. I love that some of the rooftop pieces look similar to Star Wars characters, and I think that this is such a unique building!
Casa Batlló
Unfortunately when I went to Barcelona, Casa Batlló was under construction, so I could only see a little bit of the house. This piece of architecture is however stunning, and I love how colorful it is. If you get the chance to visit, let me know how you liked it! I’m sure I would have loved it!
Arc de Triomf
The Arc de Triomf is a fun monument to see. It’s fun to have gotten to see multiple Arcs. I have seen the one in Barcelona, one in Madrid, and of course the Arc in Paris, France. These pieces of architecture are worth the visit!
Food
Mercado de la Boqueria
I fell in love with the Boqueria Mercat. This colorful, busy market features, sweet candies, delicious food, fresh fruit, juices and much more. The market may be hectic, but it is an experience walking around, looking at all of the vendors, and deciding what to try. I settled on a pitaya, strawberry, coconut juice, and a potato skewer. The chocolate and candies also looked divine. This place is foodie heaven!
Demasie
Demasie was a place I was so excited to try. I had seen Demasie on Instagram, and decided that when I went to Barcelona I absolutely HAD to try this place. Demasie has gourmet specialized cinnamon rolls. These cinnamon rolls are specialty flavors such as red velvet, Nutella and blueberry cheesecake. It really is the yummiest food and my favorite dessert from all of Europe.
Xurreria
Speaking of desserts, have I mentioned I have a sweet tooth? Xurreria has amazing stuffed churros, that are freshly baked each day. These churros are also available at a great price, at just under 3 euros. This is a perfect mid-afternoon snack or an after-dinner dessert. I ate a dulce de leche churro and not a single crumb was left.
Brunch and Cake https://www.instagram.com/brunchandcake/
Brunch and Cake is an adorable breakfast and brunch restaurant. Brunch and Cake is pretty famous and is an Instagram favorite. The food is both delicious and beautiful. You will hardly want to eat your food, because it is so elegantly and aesthetically designed. Brunch and Cake is a must for anyone that loves a good brunch!
Sweet Gaufre
Are you finding a trend? Sweet Gaufre is yet another amazing dessert place. They are known for their bubble waffles, but they also have amazing ice cream. I got white chocolate dipped ice cream cone filled with cheesecake and strawberry ice cream. It was so delicious! If you can’t go a day without dessert, then this place is a must-visit!
Cerveseria Catalana
Cerveseria Catalana is a good restaurant for authentic Spanish Tapas. Cerveseria Catalana also has some the best Crema Catalana. Crema Catalana is a Spanish version of Creme Brulee that has a hint of citrus. It really is super delicious!
