I live in San Diego & one of my favorite things to do is day trip to La Jolla. I adore this area for so many reasons. La Jolla has some of my favorite beaches, but it is also an Instagram heaven. There are so many great things to do in La Jolla. This travel guide outlines the best places to visit, things to do & the food you need to eat while in La Jolla, CA.
Places To Visit
La Jolla Cove
La Jolla Cove is home to many sea lions & seals. You can enjoy watching the wildlife there for hours! I would caution you to never touch the seals & sea lions no matter how tempting. We want to leave them be :) La Jolla is great for walking around & enjoying the view.
Surf, Swim or Relax at Windandsea Beach
Windandsea beach is one of the best beaches in La Jolla. This is a local surf spot favorite. My favorite way to tackle a beach day is by setting up camp and soaking up the sun. I love to tan and swim when the weather permits.
Things To Do
Rent a Kayak
One of my favorite things I have done in La Jolla is going kayaking. La Jolla has many different caves you can explore and is a beautiful place to kayak. You can choose to book a kayak tour or simply rent a kayak. I enjoyed renting a kayak so that I could explore it at my own leisure. Both are great options!
Visit the “Secret Swing”
The secret swing is an “Instagram famous spot” in CA. Located near UCSD, this swing offers gorgeous birds-eye views of La Jolla. This spot isn't quite a secret anymore so my tip would be to visit early in the morning or be prepared to wait your turn for photos! It is a little climb up the dirt hill but it is so worth it.
Murals of La Jolla
Downtown La Jolla has some of the most colorful and beautiful murals. I loved going on a “walking tour” of all of the murals. One thing to keep in mind is that some of the murals are temporary installments, so they might not be there when you come to visit. These murals are some of La Jolla’s best-hidden gems.
Food Suggestions
Harry’s Coffee Shop has been around since the 1960s. This cute little diner is a staple in the La Jolla community. I ordered the strawberry pancakes with fresh-squeezed tangerine juice and my fiancé got an omelet with hashbrowns. The food here is delicious. This spot would be perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.
Scoops La Jolla
Scoops is a cute little gourmet ice cream shop. The ice cream is delicious and packed with flavor. I ordered a double scoop of vegan chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter chocolate chip! It was creamy even without the milk base. I could taste the coconut base which seemed to enhance all of the flavors! I would recommend stopping here for a sweet treat!
Bobboi Natural Gelato
Another great sweet treat option in La Jolla is Bobboi Natural Gelato. This gelato has amazing flavor profiles & is deliciously smooth. I love their Stratiatella, dragon fruit, and triple berry flavors! This is the best gelato I have had in the USA, and it is comparable to Italian Gelato!
La Jolla, CA is an amazing place to visit! As you can see there are so many places to see, things to do & food to try. Thank you for reading my day trip travel guide! Please leave a like or a comment to show your support!
