Portland has some amazing sweet treats!! Ice cream, honey toast and even edible cookie dough! Here are some of the best dessert spots in Portland, OR.
Salt and Straw
How could I make a list of some of my favorite dessert spots in Portland without including Salt and Straw? Even if you have been to Salt and Straw at a different location (LA, San Diego and soon to be in Disneyland) I promise that it is worth it to visit the original scoop shop. Salt and Straw never disappoints. The gourmet ice cream and quirky flavors are a Portland staple. Salt and Straw will always hold the title of my favorite ice cream shop. If you are unsure what to order I would suggest the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, or the seasonal Pot of Gold if available. They are all mouthwatering!
Cookie Dough Cafe
Three words. Edible Cookie Dough. Need I say more? I absolutely love eating cookie dough when I am baking cookies. However, I often have to sneak around when it comes to eating raw cookie dough because my mother is a strong believer that raw cookie dough= salmonella poisoning. Cookie Dough Cafe is adorable and delicious. I love that I can eat all of the cookie dough I want without worrying about the consequences of eating unbaked dough. There are a handful of flavor combinations and mix ins. Not to mention that the shop itself is instagram worthy as well. Cookie Dough Cafe is a must-try place in Portland.
Ruby Jewel Scoops Ice Cream
Ice cream sandwiched between two freshly baked cookies is my idea of heaven. Ruby Jewel Scoops has incredible ice cream and chewy cookies. I love that Ruby Jewel serves ice cream that is handcrafted daily in a Portland kitchen. The ice cream always tastes fresh, and the cookies are incredibly soft. You have to get an ice cream sandwich when you go. For anyone from California, I would say that Ruby Jewels rivals Baked Bear for best ice cream sandwiches. Ruby Jewels has three shops in Portland, but if you can’t find your way there, you can also find the ice cream sandwiches in many local grocery stores.
Mo Cha Tea House
Although, Mo Cha Tea House is technically located in Beaverton, OR and not Portland, it is so yummy it had to be included in this list. Mo Cha Tea House serves coffee and bubble tea, but I personally would say that their best menu item is the Honey Toast. Honey Toast also known as Brick Toast is defined as “A Taiwanese sweet butter bread shaped in a block and often served with ice cream”. Honey Toast is one of the best desserts I have ever eaten. The bread is sweet and delicate. Honey Toast can be topped with ice cream, fruit, syrups and a variety of other toppings. Mo Cha Tea House has various flavors that are all incredible. My personal favorite is the “Berry Cute” brick toast. Next time you want to try something new I highly suggest trying out honey toast-but I’m warning you, you will get addicted.
Waffle Window
Waffle Window is primarily a breakfast place, but the waffles are so delicious I believe they should also count as dessert. My personal favorite would have to be the Cheesecake Waffle. Waffle Window serves a crispy waffle topped with a cheesecake pudding, your choice of fruit topping, whipped cream and a delicious graham cracker crumble. I love the blueberry compote and or strawberry fruit toppings. Waffle Window also has a chocolate dipped waffle that is so decadent. Although, I am counting Waffle Window as one of the best dessert places, do not be fooled- I would argue it's also acceptable to have it for lunch and dinner as well. It’s just so good and there are so many sweet and savory options.
