During college, I studied abroad in Seville, Spain and I absolutely fell in love with this city!! If you are planning a trip to Seville, be sure to check out this travel guide or add these places to your bucket list! These are tried and true tips for best places to visit, see and eat in Seville, Spain!
PLACES TO SEE
Plaza de España
Plaza de España is a beautiful architectural feature of Seville. When I studied abroad in Seville, I lived within walking distance and I loved coming there. This is rightfully one of the most popular tourist spots in Seville. In Plaza de España, you can pay to do rowboats around the moat, or you can start a horse ride carriage through the streets of Seville and Maria Luisa Park. This architecture features traditional Spanish tiling. The tiled benches showcasing different cities in Spain, are a great spot to people watch. This is one of the most interesting buildings with a semi-circular design and two tall towers at either end. Often times, there are also Flamenco performers you can watch. I would argue that Plaza de España is a must-see.
Maria Luisa Park
Maria Luisa Park is a beautiful lush park with great places to sit, relax and take in the beauty of sunny Seville. There are multiple walking trails, flowering trees, orange trees, and ponds. As mentioned before, you will see people riding horse-drawn carriages through the park! Maria Luisa is connected to Plaza de España so be sure to take a stroll through the park when you go to see that monument.
Las Setas/Metropol Parasol https://www.visitasevilla.es/en/more-see/las-setas
Another one of the beautiful architectural structures in Seville is Las Setas, which roughly translates to “the mushrooms”. Las Setas is a beautiful city viewpoint with an interesting design. You pay a small fee to get in that includes a drink price and a souvenir postcard. It is incredibly fun to walk around up top and get a birds-eye view of Seville. This is a great photo spot for Instagram.
Royal Alcázar of Seville
The Alcazár is a well-known spot in Seville, famous for being one of the Game of Throne filming spots. The Alcazar is a royal palace that features a beautiful garden, and Spanish tile everywhere you look. The patio and courtyards are also famous for their beauty, and exemplification of the Andalusian Mudejar architectural style. This is a beautiful place, where you could wander for hours. Word of advice: book your tickets online as the queue line can be incredibly long, especially during peak tourist season. \
Giralda Tower
The Giralda Tower is the Seville Cathedral’s bell tower. The top of the tower provides a stunning 360-degree view of Seville. You will need to enter the tower through the cathedral. Your ticket price includes entrance to the cathedral and the tower. Keep in mind that there are no steps, but the walk up is pretty steep as there are multiple winding up ramps. The view of the city is well worth the climb though!
Bull Fighting Ring Tour
Although, I never wanted to go see an actual bullfight- I found it so interesting to go tour the bullfighting Ring! Bullfighting is a tradition in Spain, and it is cool to learn about it, and feel as though you are entering the ring for a fight! This is a cool activity if you are looking for something with a little history involved!
Sit along the river near Triana
The river near Triana is perfect for a mid-day picnic or sunset spot. You can sit on the grass or go get a drink at one of the riverside bars. My favorite thing to do on a sunny day was to sit by the river, reading a book and eating a pastry.
One thing I would highly recommend to do would be to travel to Seville during Feria. Feria de Abril is one of the most incredible celebrations. Feria is a week-long festivity starting typically two weeks after Easter. Women dress up in Flamenco dresses and the men wear suits. People come to dance and party in “casetas” on the fairgrounds. These casetas are large tents that are often decorated and built to hold hundreds of people. Most of the tents are invite-only, but there are public casetas, for everyone’s enjoyment. In addition to the dancing, there are thrill rides and fair rides. It truly is an incredible experience. I would definitely look into traveling to Seville during this week. Puro & Bio is my favorite gelato shop. The gelatos are authentic and delicious. I love the stracciatella and the berry flavors. If you are in the mood for a sweet treat, Puro and Bio is the perfect place.
