Venice was one of my favorite places I visited while in Europe. The people were kind, and it is a place, unlike anything you have ever seen before. This travel guide shares my favorite places to visit, things to do, and of course, my favorite food finds!
Places to Visit
Piazza San Marco
Piazza San Marco is the home of St. Marks Basilica and the Doge Palace. It’s beautiful, but it can get very busy. I would suggest going in the morning to have the best experience.
The Bridge of Sighs
The Bridge of Sighs is very close to the Piazza San Marco. Bridge of Sighs is a famous landmark, and also very popular for Instagram photos! I found it hard to take a photo with it because there are large crowds, but it is unlike any other bridge in Venice, so it is very beautiful!
Ponte Di Rialto Bridge + Grand Canal
The Ponte Di Rialto Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. This bridge also contains small shops, that sell local jewelry, Murano glass, and other items primarily for tourists. I found that the best photo spots were from either side of the river but not while you are crossing the bridge.
Burano Island
WOW. I loved Burano. This little island is a fisherman’s town, but it might just be the most colorful place you can ever visit. Each house is painted a different color, and it is a beautiful rainbow of buildings. I have over 500 pictures from one afternoon exploring Burano. You will need to ride the water bus from Venice to Burano but it is so worth it.
Fondaco Dei Tedeschi
Fondaco Dei Tedeschi has the best 360-degree rooftop view of Venice, and it is also houses high-end boutiques. You will need to reserve a time to visit, but you can reserve your spot and time frame online! This viewpoint offers stunning views, for no cost! I would highly suggest doing this!
Things to Do
Ride a Gondola
Venice is most famous for its Gondolas and Gondoliers. Although it can be quite pricey, riding a gondola was one of my favorite memories from both my trip to Venice and my entire time abroad. Be friendly to you Gondolier, and they may even sing for you! Our gondolier told us all about living in Italy. There is something so special about floating through the “streets” of Venice. You will not regret splurging for a gondola ride.
Walk Around the City
One of my favorite parts of Venice was simply walking around and finding all of the unique bridges. It’s almost like a maze because you can walk around not knowing where you’ll end up but loving the journey!
Take a Photo at the Iconic Instagram Spot
This spot is located at the dock behind Hotel San Moisè. Look for the hotel sign and, make a left walking all the way to the end of the street. The dock will be located on your right. This spot is perfect for photos because gondolas frequently pass by.
Food
La Donatella
La Donatella is a Venitian Café with the most delicious pastries and coffee drinks. I ate breakfast here every single day I was in Venice. I got a latte and a pastry for under €5 which is an amazing price! I always stood at the bar because it was cheaper than sitting at a table. I tried both the Nutella and Lemon Pastry and it was incredible.
Suso Gelato
Suso was some of the yummiest gelatos I had in all of Italy. They have delicious flavors and they are very popular! This gelato also comes with their signature wafer! I would highly recommend Suso Gelato if you have a sweet tooth!
Antico Forno
Antico Forno has delicious pizza. This restaurant is located near the Rialto bridge and the grand canal. This is a take-away only restaurant. They are known for their thick crust style pizza, but their thin pizza is super good too!
We Love Italy Fresh Pasta
I love quick lunches and doing sit down meals more for dinner. “We Love Italy” is customizable to-go pasta that is perfect for lunch.
Chips Amsterdam
This is a super random suggestion but it’s pretty great if you love fries as I do. I saw someone walking around with these fries and immediately asked them where to get them from! This place is fun because they have tons of sauces to choose from to dip your “chips” in!
